as a music and dance student
As of December 2019, Rama is currently learning Sitar under Guru Pandit Sanjay Guha. She attends different classes from Open to Advanced to broaden her knowledge. Her guru, who is a brilliant musician teaches new music every day and every lesson. Therefore, any free time she gets from her other classes, she spends in the sitar class.
Rama has been learning Bharatanatyam under Guru Shri Prakash Yadagudde since 2017. She scored Distinction for her Diploma 1 exam. Due to poor health, she couldn't take her 2nd year exam and had to reduce her dance times but enjoys performing with her peers in annual events.
Rama scored highest marks for Karnatic Vocal for dance exam. She joined a compulsory singing open class for dance students and fell in love with the language so much. 6 months in she asked her teacher Mrs. Shivasakthi Shivanesan, if she could join Diploma 1 and then Diploma 2. She has passed both levels with First Class.
Rama is currently learning Hindustani Vocal under the guidance of Mrs. Chandrima Misra.
When Rama was young, often in school, the teachers used to ask them to show their talents. She often danced (not very well). One day, her teacher said, why don't you sing? your aunt and brother usually sing. After that she started singing to show of her talents. She always wanted to pursue music as a career but either her parents wouldn't allow or the schools or colleges would ask for previous background. Rama was very excited when she got a rejection letter from her top up degree application that she would finally be able to study music in London. But life had other plans. After graduating, she got involved in many volunteering and job opportunities that she had to wait further 4 years.
When she decided to join Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, she had actually wanted to learn Odissi but due to confusion with the names, she was determined to learn bharatanatyam. The night before the open day, she sat down and googled all the art forms and the gurus, she ended up signing up for Sitar, Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Karnatic Vocal. She later joined Mridangam and tried Veena as well. But sadly or thankfully, due to poor health, she has decided to slow down and just focus on Sitar and possibly Bharatanatyam and Hindustani Vocal.
